Chaos Minisphere

This CAD model was designed by Oskar van Deventer, copyright (c), 12 May 2026

Chaos Minisphere was Robin Houston's answer to my question "what is the smallest number of sticks to build a fundamentally asymmetric tension structure?" That number turned out to be four. As each stick needs to interact with other sticks at four places each stick needs to touch at least one other stick twice. So red-blue and yellow-green are each touching twice.

Chaos Minisphere 6 was my own answer when we add the rule that double-touches are not allowed. At the moment, it is not known whether this is also possible with five sticks fundamentally without symmetry.
