KiteDart Morph

This CAD model was designed by Oskar van Deventer, copyright (c), 14 August 2025

KiteDart Morph was developed together with Craig Kaplan, who is famous for his contributions to the "Einstein" aperiodic monotiling. The puzzle is based on the aperiodic kites-and-darts Penrose tiling. Craig showed how a single kite or dart can be transformed to a jigsaw piece made of multiple smaller kites and darts. The pieces morph one kite or dart at one side to the set of smaller ones at the other side. This enforces the Penrose rules to assure aperiodicity. The goal it to make the 40 pieces (25 kite + 15 dart) fit into the two-part frame. The frame is held together by twenty 2-mm-thick, 3-mm-diameter cylinder magnets.
