Magic Transmission

This CAD model was designed by Oskar van Deventer, copyright (c), 16 November 2025.

Magic Transmission was inspired by the three hands of a clock. However you ever wondered how those hands are driven? The answer is that they are connected through little concentric cylinders. The gears in the back are in reverse order. So front 123, back 321. This made me wonder, is it possible to design a transmission, where the order is not inverted? So 123-123. This is the result of the search. I made two different versions, one with magnets, the order with gears.

The pattern at the outside is from Kagen Sound (https://kagensound.com/, previously Kagen Scheafer), who has used this stripy pattern in several of his wooden puzzle masterpieces.

The magnetic versions each use 16 5x5x5-mm cube magnets: https://www.supermagnete.nl/eng/cube-magnets-neodymium/cube-magnet-5mm_W-05-N
